I read many articles about "Company X taking on Slack", but they fail to point out exactly how the company plans to disrupt Slack.

We use Slack all day, it is deeply embedded in our productivity and workflows, it just works. What exactly would convince us to give up something that works?

Ask HN: Do You Use the Five Whys Technique in Requirements Analysis?

The Five Whys technique is widely used in Root Cause Analysis [1]. The basic idea is to continue asking why until no further cause can be found.

I've seen too many "business requirements" which are actually implementation suggestions or complaints phrased as a requirement; and as we've all heard and read, poor requirements are the leading cause of program failure. [2]

It seems to me that the 5 Whys could be adapted to Requirements analysis as well:

The user wants a feature for X

Why?
Because they use that to do this other thing

Why?
Etc etc.

Obviously at some points you will have to ask Who, What and How as well.

Further proposal: All acceptable requirements will eventually find the answer: Because this feature will add value in the following area via this specific mechanism.

I was just reading, http://www.techrepublic.com/article/microsoft-shows-vmware-and-oracle-how-to-get-real-about-open-source/.

I cannot still figure out what is Microsoft's endgame with open-source. I really love VSCode, but I am worried that I am just a pawn for the famous [Embrace, extend, and extinguish](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embrace,_extend,_and_extinguish) ploy and its just [MSJVM](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Java_Virtual_Machine), again.

As a victim of ie6 apocalypse as a developer and still fighting to keep my win7 machine at work as I just hate win10. I believe that Nadella is just a decoy & I am just waiting for Baller to jump out screaming "gotcha!" & go on one of his crazy rants.
